  1. >Glad to hear your spelling has tanked. For me it was too many 17th C manuscripts. Now I never know what “looks” right. It doesn’t help to read both English and American scholarly work, with different spelling conventions.

And since I don’t have to comment on student papers in French, it’s only an issue when I’m actually *in* France. But the French are always so delighted when an American makes any effort at all to communicate in French that they are more than willing to overlook it :)Barb
